IT IS SPRING!

Welcome to the Spring Term.  Our topic this term is Skellybones.

For lots of information about what we are learning this term please take a look at the Curriculum Information Leaflet.

Our focus for this half term is 'Animals'.  Our role play area has changed to a Vets Surgery.

We met Toby who has Cerebral Palsy.  He talked to us using a voice synthesiser and told us all about his favourite things like skiing and swimming.  He let us have a go in his wheelchair!

Y1 have begun their L2Me African Drumming lessons with Ms Whitehouse from Hampshire Music Service.  We have learnt the names of  the instruments, and a song using African words.  We will share our learning with you in our performance for our families before Easter.

We have got off to a good start, learning about the different parts of our bodies in Science and how they are related to our senses.  Why not have a go remembering the 5 senses.

Isabelle and Isla's Mummy visits Flamingo Class

Thank you to Isabella and Isla's mummy who came to visit Flamingo Class to talk about growing a baby in her tummy. The children wrote questions as part of our learning about the human body and had the opportunity to ask her. We look forward to seeing whether she has a boy or a girl!

Another Splendid Flamingo Class Assembly

Flamingo Class shared a lot of learning with their grown ups in another great assembly packed full of songs, dance and interesting facts.

Just Different

Toby, from an organisation called "Just Different", came in to share with the children a little bit about himself. We found out lots of interesting and exciting ways that we are all the same and different.

Flamingo Class visit Pizza Express

All children in Key Stage 1 will have the opportunity to visit Pizza Express this term as we are learning about healthy eating and making healthy choices. Pizza Express showed Flamingo Class how to make a pizzas and talked about the healthy choices we can make about what we eat. Luckily, we got to bring our pizzas home to taste. Delicious!

Picasso Style Art

Using our knowledge about colours and how they make us feel, we have created our own Picasso style art. It would certainly be a welcome addition in any art gallery.

Colour Mixing

As part of our art learning, we have been looking at colour and how it can make us feel. We made icing using the three primary colours and looked at what happens when you mix two primary colours together. After all of our hard work, we iced biscuits and took them home to sample.

School Nurse Visit

The school Nurse has been in to visit Key Stage 1 classes to talk about the importance of teeth brushing and hand washing. Lets keep all the nasty bugs and germs away and keep happy, healthy children in school ready to do some more great learning!

Mystery Reader

Thank you to Eric's daddy who came in to be our Mystery Reader again. He certainly is showing our Core Value of Happiness, enjoying it so much that he came back for a second time!

In Y1 we enjoyed the 'Funnybones' story and innovating our own characters to write about.

We learnt about Florence Nightingale and how she transformed hospitals in Scutari during the Crimean War.  We really enjoyed our History workshop provided by Farnham Museum.

In Maths we have been focussing on Subtraction and remembering that when we subtract the total always gets smaller.

Please keep practising the Phase Five Phonemes at home.

To celebrate the end of our Fire! Fire! topic the children enjoyed a party. We enjoyed eating firey red jellies and healthy red, yellow and orange peppers. We also played lots of games, like sticking the ladder on the fire truck! Every child also received a certificate as they have completed Fire Safety Training; knowing how to recognise hazards in the home, keeping safe at home and at school and knowing what to do if a smoke alarm goes off.

Peacock Class have loved reading the Christmasaurus - today he came for a visit!

The Curtis Museum

As well as the Curtis Museum, Woodpecker Class visited the Cairn to look at the  poppy wreaths that were laid on Remembrance Sunday.  We also visited the  Allen Gallery to have our snack - we were really grateful for a warm space to sit in.  The Allen Gallery and Curtis Museum are FREE to visit.  So please visit again with your families.

WELCOME TO THE AUTUMN TERM

We have had an amazing start to the autumn term.

We have settled into our new classes brilliantly and are enjoying our topic 'Fire Fire'.

We loved having Firefighter Dan visit from Hampshire Fire and Rescue.  He told us about staying safe by NOT playing with matches and lighters.  Dan also talked to us about how important it is to know our addresses in case of an emergency.
