The Spring Term has come to an end and summer is on the way.
We hope you enjoy looking at the photos and reading about our creativity, happiness and respect over the last few weeks of term.
We loved performing at our L2Me concert celebrating all that we had learnt on the Bamboo Tamboos.
Thank you to all the grown ups that helped make Easter bonnets with us.
Finally, we rounded off our castle topic by having a medieval banquet with entertainment from Mrs Dalton, Mrs King, Mrs Palmer and a grand finale from Mrs Hodge singing the national anthem! Thank you to all the Pages who served the food.

Happiness, Creativity and Respect at Windsor Castle
We loved our day at the castle. We ate our lunch and visited the toilet lots of times but also enjoyed looking at all the features of a castle including a portcullis, keep and arrow slits. We marvelled at Princess Eugenie's wedding dress and were awestruck about the chandeliers and painted ceilings. We also learnt how to train as a knight which took 14 years and
Queen Sophia 'dubbed' Sir Cain and Sir Harley . What was your best bit?
The Amazing Year One Castle Competition
Wow, wow, wow! You 'blew our socks off' after half term with your amazing castles. How will we ever choose a winner? Watch this space!
Drum roll please ...............................
Lion and Mouse were pleased to announce the winners of the winding machine competition. They hope you enjoy your prizes.
Marvellous Machines
The Mouse from 'The Lion Inside' wrote to us asking for our help. He was struggling to get water from the bottom of the rock to the top to drink it. The Mouse asked if we could design some machines with winders to help him - SO WE DID.
The Mouse said there would be a prize for a Year 1 who demonstrated respect, happiness and creativity in their designing and making.
Watch this space for who it could be!
Snow Day Fun
We hope you have enjoyed your snow day fun.
One of the Year One's was still thinking of school and drew a fabulous picture of the Wootey logo. Please share any snow day learning with us next week when we are back at school. Maybe write a poem about your snow fun - remember to include adjectives and all the non negotiables we keep sharing with you in class like capital letters, full stops and finger spaces.
Art
We have been learning about Vivienne Westwood in Art and were inspired to design our own space suits using line, tone, hatching and cross hatching. Please pop into class and look at our designs.
D.T.
We are learning about machines in D.T. Machines are tools made up of parts that help us do something. We went out in our grounds and around school to see what machines we could find.
Brrrr it was cold today!
We went outside today to continue our Science long study about the seasons.
Now it is winter we looked at the plants in the 'Mouse's hideout' to see how they had changed since the autumn.
The Blackberry Bush had plenty of leaves but no fruit, the Horse Chestnut had no leaves but plenty of sticky buds waiting to burst in to life when the warmer weather arrives, the Snowberry was completely bare apart from a few white berries but the Ivy looked exactly the same as in September - why do you think that is?
To prove it is winter it even snowed today!
Why not enjoy some classic music by Holst via the link below. In their Computing lessons the children are using the Music software on Purple Mash to create a piece of music for Earth - the planet Holst missed when composing!
The children have now fully settled back into Year 1 after the Christmas break and we are really enjoying our new topic...
Whizz Bang Pop Machine
Our focus this half term is Space and we have already learnt lots of new things. Please ask the Year One children about creating a Space Station role play area, listening to Gustav Holst's 'Mars' from The Planets and creating a moonscape with papier mache - we have been busy!
We will be adding more information and photos in the next few weeks so keep checking our class page.
Useful Info
Remember keep reading at home to increase your number of reads. Library day is Friday and reading your library book at home counts as a read too. Spelling day is Friday so look out for the highlighted words on your spelling sheet to practice. PE is on Tuesday and Thursday, please make sure all your kit is named so we can help keep the correct kit with the correct child.
Please encourage your children to stay happy at school by not bringing any toys from home into school (they do get upset when they forget where they have put something) unless specifically asked. However we do love to see and hear about anything topic related e.g pictures, poems, books, models etc.
